Guardie of the week - Rachel

This week's guard of the week is.......

Rachel Hellums

from San Antonio, Texas

Rachel is from Brandeis Varsity Guard, were she joined guard going into her freshman year. The reason she did guard was because the old director had gone to the middle school and told them all about guard and it really intrigued her. So, she decided she wanted to learn more about it and then she joined. Now, she's in her sophomore year and was on rifle line for this past marching season. She also made her high school's varsity winterguard for this past winterguard season and managed to snag a sabre solo for it as well.

Her favorite thing about Guard is the rush of performing and the ability to do things people don't usually do also, some of her fav moves vary from under the leg triple on rifle to an upside-down 45 toss on flag( I'm guessing its an opposite 45). Her love for guard expands over just tosses, she also loves how the girls are a constant support system and give her the ability to keep going when things get rough, as well as the given outlet to express herself and her creativity.
In the pass two years she has been on guard, she has accomplished many things, guard has been what she is living for and for her, it will continue to be her life support for as long as she has to live. The next step for her, auditioning to be captain for her junior year (May 16th). In her future,
she is hoping to have a chance to audition for either the Crossmen Guard ( her local dci group) or Identity Winterguard since they practice at the college she wants to go to.

Congrats Guard of the week

Rachel
